"Empowering 12-Year-Olds in El Salvador: Teaching the Next Generation to Send Bitcoin Sats"

More than 25,000 students in El Salvador have been introduced to Bitcoin as part of their classroom education. Even children as young as 12 years old are being educated about Bitcoin and are being taught how to perform their first Bitcoin transactions by members of the Bitcoin Beach community in El Salvador.

Roman Martínez, a leader within the Bitcoin Beach community, shared that he believes educating children about Bitcoin, money, and the economy at an early age can provide a foundation for underprivileged children to have better prospects in life. Bitcoin Beach organizes after-school programs to teach kids how to use Bitcoin. They visit schools every Friday to educate students about money, dreams, setting up Bitcoin wallets, receiving their first satoshis (the smallest unit of Bitcoin), and making transactions.

Martínez mentioned that despite initial beliefs that Bitcoin is difficult to learn or only for economics students, the students have embraced the technology. He emphasized that subjects like Bitcoin, money, and banking are often not taught in schools, yet they are essential life skills.

Martínez views Bitcoin as the "latest evolution of money," and he believes that by teaching kids about the advantages of Bitcoin along with other skills, they can access better job opportunities. With knowledge of English, computer skills, Bitcoin, and marketing, they could potentially work remotely for global employers.

Bitcoin Beach, located in El Zonte, a beach town near the capital San Salvador, aims to ensure that Bitcoin's potential benefits reach those who are excluded from traditional banking systems. Another non-profit organization, My First Bitcoin, has also been educating students in El Salvador about Bitcoin. They have helped 25,000 students earn a "Bitcoin Diploma" through the country's public school system.

Around 70% of El Salvadorians do not have access to traditional banking services. Financial inclusion has been a priority for President Nayib Bukele, who has supported Bitcoin-related initiatives. These education programs were spurred by the government's decision to make Bitcoin legal tender in El Salvador in September 2021.
